My Day at Pit Bull Court
Unbelievable, how an owner will defend their pit bull to the very end, regardless of the circumstances. How did it turn out? Well, the owner of the 2 pit bulls pleaded guilty, all the while saying this is political, it is a mistake, It wasn't his dogs, they would never do anything like that. They were sweet and gentle and played with the kids all the time. Oddly, almost every attack, a neighbor or family member would say, "that pit bull was so gentle and loving, I didn't think he could hurt a flea". Or, "he was such a kind and good man, he loved his pit bull dearly", and the one that floored me was, after the 12 year old boy was literally torn to shreds, blood and body parts strewn all over the basement, caused by their 2 family pit bulls when the pits broke down the basement door to get to the boy and killed him....The mothers statement was, "it was a "freak accident". UNBELIEVABLE!!!
So this confession of guilt and deep devotion to his 2 pit bulls did not come as a surprise. This gentleman however, was caught in several lies, and regardless of his pleas, the judge knew the truth. He knew the 2 dogs belonged to the defendant standing before him, were the same dogs that came into my home to attack Boo Boo and returned 2 weeks later and kill Blackie. The owner of the pits said I lived too far away (3 blocks), but I can see his house from mine, a straight shot. This was not a case of mistaken identity, same beautiful brendle color with white on their chests, 2 teen agers, same height, weight..etc, etc. But who can convince a pit bull owner, when pit bulls have their owners mesmerized.
I realized this when the two pit bulls came into my home and again 2 weeks later to kill Blackie. It came clear when I went to their home to identify them, and they chased my car behind the fence...I had to roll up the window quick, I thought they were comming over the fence. In fact, they would have if one hadn't tripped over the other.
When the animal control arrested the 2 pit bulls, they brought them to my house for one more identification. When he opened the doors for me to view, I couldn't believe what was before my eyes.
These same two pit bulls who ravaged and killed, and chased my vehicle, were cowering, scared to death, had reverted into little babies. Automatically I was angered at the breeders. How can one know the ancestory of this breed and keep breeding...animals with split personalities, who will chew you to death one moment and love you to death the other. How greedy, how calloused, how demonic.
I wanted to reach into those cages and hold them, instead I told them I was sorry, and I meant it. I'm sorry that people are so inconsiderate that they would create something so emotional to ease their own insecurities, and to fulfill their own selfish needs. As the animal control closed the doors he said, "yes, they are all like that when we catch them, but if I let them out of those cages, they will revert back to being a pit bull". And how true I knew that was.
Before that particular incident, all I could see was ugly images of pit bulls growling in my head, now I see a different image. I see an image of what humans have done to these animals from the beginning, and what they are still doing today. They are breeding instinctual killer animals with human emotions, and since most people cannot control their own emotions, how can they expect to control a pit bulls. It was the saddest thing I have ever seen, and it broke my heart.
In court The owner told the judge he wanted to get the pit bulls out and leave town. He requested that he keep them in his house until he left, but this was not acceptable to me nor to the animal control officer. In order for the pits to be released, he must go through the requirements for the "dangerous pit bull act". The judge ruled in my favor. He was very kind and sympathetic, especially when he found out that the 2 pits came right into my home.
In the corridor of the court house, the animal control officer introduced me to a lady that had been in front of the judge before me. He said, "she was attacked by a pit bull." I looked at her arm and face and put my arms around her and told her how sorry I was. I also told her we have petitioned a pit bull ban here. You see, if you own a pit and want to take a chance of getting yourself or your family killed, that's up to you...but when it envolves other people, children and animals, then we have to take a stand and protect the innocent.
Almost every day I hear another pit bull story, my avon lady when a pit attack her a week ago,
the man coming out of the city counsel meeting said a pit bit his son on the hip and took a big chunk out of it...the owner of the pit asked if $20 would take care of it. A girl told her story right after Blackies killing, about a pit killing her dog and taking a chunk out of her sons leg, and on and on and on. It's never ending. Out of the hundreds of people I have asked their opinion of the pit bull, every person except 2, cringed and cowered in fear.
I have come to the conclusion that most people have pit bulls for three reasons:
1. Breeding pit bulls is a very lucrative business. They are being sold for very high profits, and the more crime we have in our cities, the more pit bulls will be mass marketed.
2. Insecurities: Pit bulls frighten people, and everyone who owns one knows this truth. When a person is insecure they need something to feel BIG. They walk their dogs down the street and everyone walks the other way. They are proud this dog gives them such a powerful feeling, because they lack confidence within themselves. A confident person would not want others to walk the other way, they would invite their neighbors in (love thy neighbor...and that means everyone) instead of keeping them out. A secure person would not put themselves and their children's lives in danger. A stable person, a dog could not intimate or mesmerize. A good person would not want to fighten anyone.
3. The pit bull is the meanest and the most vicious dog alive...this all criminals know and use for their own protection. They have selected the pit bull to be their weapon because of their incredible strength and powerful jaws. But to own a pit bull for this purpose, a gun or land mine would be more humane.
I believe the owner of the pit bulls who killed Blackie, his kids can now live a safe and peaceful life. This could very well have saved them, unless of course he gets them back or leaves town and buys more.
Surely it is understandable to feel sorry for pit bulls...it's not their fault. My heart goes out to them immensely, but common sense tells one that it is not wise to take them home and live with them, especially if they have children. If you want to disfigure and kill yourself that's one thing, but why not spare your children.
CONCLUSION:
The 2 Pit bulls that attacked my home were arrested on three counts, and the owners plead guilty and took responsiblity. They did everything that was required for the Dangerous Breed law and their 2 pit bulls were returned, nutured, micro-chipped, etc,. This person has my utmost respect for doing the right thing, regardless of the cost. God bless him.
I can now rest at peace knowing when I open my front or back door, that 2 pit bulls are not standing there waiting to attack and tear my body to shreds. Thank You Jesus!
